Kiev may restart buying Russian gas if metering point transferred

KIEV, Oct 23 (PRIME) -- Kiev may restart purchases of Russian natural gas if the gas metering point is switched from the western border of Ukraine to the eastern border, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Kistion said in an interview to Economichna Pravda newswire released on Monday.

“Never say never. But we should understand that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. We can analyze the experience, when they tied us with attractive conditions and then solved all their issues. We could study an option of us switching the transit metering point to the Eastern border. The current format renders it (purchases of gas in Russia) risky and irresponsible,” he said.

Ukraine stopped buying gas directly from Russia in November 2015, and now it relies in reverse gas imports from Europe.
